The slewing crane – efficient moving and ergonomic lifting

Jib cranes are an economical solution for a wide range of handling tasks. Whether in incoming or outgoing goods, in production, assembly or testing – slewing jib cranes offer the possibility of transporting goods ergonomically.

Jib cranes are often wrongly seen as a compromise solution compared to gantries. However, unlike gantry cranes, they are primarily suited to perform tasks at a spatially limited workplace.

The flexibility of a slewing jib crane can be demonstrated very well in the following application. The column-mounted slewing jib crane is to be used at various locations to handle bags. The special feature – the different workplaces are not only located in different rooms, but also on different floors.

For this reason, it is built on an ezzLINKmobil mobile base plate, which can be moved with a pallet truck or forklift. The crane is fully equipped with a handling system, power supply with CEE plug 400V 16A, ready for operation at any desired location. The column is height adjustable, for driving through doors and underneath pipes and cable trays. It also has a split boom for transport in a freight elevator.

Facts at a glance: Data of common slewing jib cranes:

  • Load capacity: up to 1000 kg
  • jib length: 8 m
  • Swivel range: 270° (special version up to 360°)
  • Swivel: manual

Both in the standard version as wall-mounted and column-mounted slewing crane, with its own column or mounted on a column existing in the building, slewing cranes are the optimum solution for defined workplaces and can be flexibly integrated. With ranges of up to 8 m from the column, which creates a working range of up to 16 m, even large working areas can be covered.
In a narrow working environment or with forklift traffic, columns are not desirable. Therefore, slewing cranes can also be suspended from the ceiling.

The movement of slewing cranes always consists of two components: Slewing the jib requires a higher operating force than moving the carriage along the jib. To facilitate operation, especially slewing, aluminium jibs are preferred. The mass accelerated during slewing is about 50 % compared to steel booms.

Depending on the goods to be moved, there are different lifting devices: chain hoists, cable hoists, cable balancers or vacuum lifters. Accordingly, a wide variety of goods such as sacks, boxes, crates, buckets and much more can be moved. Due to its flexibility, the slewing crane is an efficient and ergonomic helper. Thus, Best Handling Technology offers a complete system with lifting aid and slewing crane.
